Shakhtar Donetsk and Brazil midfielder Fred is expected to undergo a medical with Manchester United next week as his move to Old Trafford near completion.
The Brazilian has been in talks with United since January after a move to rivals Man City reportedly fell through. He already revealed his representatives were in advanced negotiations, the 25-year-old is expected to join United before the World Cup.
The Red Devils will reportedly be paying £43m up front, with over £7m worth of add-ons expected to raise the deal to £52.2m.
Mourinho is eager to improve his defensive line and the capture of Fred is said to come as a major boost to United’s manager after making a defensive midfielder his priority this summer.
Fred will be replacing long-serving United legend Michael Carrick in the squad, and with his ability to shield the defense and win possession back for his team, Manchester United would finally solve their defensive midfield issues with Nemanja Matic the only other player in the squad with those abilities.
Fred, who has been with Shakhtar Donetsk for five seasons, is currently in England on international duty with the Brazil team preparing themselves for the World Cup.
